Any products covered by CE marking directives must get the marking if they are to move into the EU market. However, must the manufacturers and importers have all their products go through lab testing? Notably, lab testing is done for verification that the particular product complies with the relevant standards. As much as CE marking is for conformity to specific standards such as those relating to safety, some directives do not require manufacturers and importers to have their products go through third-party tests. Importantly though, ensure your products undergo a conformity assessment procedure, which may at times call for lab testing. Remember, compliance with applicable directives is mandatory but compliance with testing standards is voluntary.
